Contoura Vision vs Epi Contoura

We have previously discussed the excellent technique called Contoura for laser procedures. Now, there's another technique known as Epi-Contoura that I would like to explain to you. First, we use a thin layer to lift the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye, on which we perform laser treatment. Then, we lift a thin layer beneath it. After performing the laser treatment on this lower layer, we place the lifted layer back. The recovery is almost instant – within an hour, the vision becomes significantly clearer, and by the next day, it's mostly back to normal.
Sometimes, in cases where the cornea is thinner, particularly for low prescription powers ranging from 1 to 6, if we skip lifting the upper layer and directly apply the laser, we end up preserving more corneal tissue. This is what we refer to as Epi-Contoura. In this process, there's a modification known as "Stream Light." Here, the patient simply presses a button, and within about 30 seconds, the entire correction is performed.
Now, the main difference lies in the healing process. With Epi-Contoura, it takes about 4 to 5 days for healing, whereas with Contoura, healing is almost immediate. Due to this distinction, we generally prefer Contoura for routine cases. However, in special situations, we opt for Epi-Contoura.
