Finland is practically synonymous with the sauna and no trip to its capital Helsinki is complete without a trip to one. While you may be familiar with saunas for their health benefits, to the Finns the sauna is much more than a steam room; it’s a national icon. For Finns, going to the sauna is woven into the rhythm of life, but for visitors, it may seem a bit daunting. We’ll strip away any misconceptions you may have and how to get the most out of your sauna experience while exploring some of Helsinki’s best saunas.
