Final Cut Fast - Introduction to Timecode Displays
You can choose the time mode for Final Cut Pro. Time is displayed below the viewer. To access the Time Display, open the Final Cut Pro settings.
Settings is accessed by going to Final Cut Pro - Settings or the keyboard shortcut command-comma. You can access the Time Display in the General tab.
Options:
◦ Timecode display
◦ Timecode display including subframes
◦ Duration in frames
◦ Duration in seconds
You can view the project and source timecode in resizable floating windows. Access either window by going to Window - click on the appropriate timecode window that you want to see.
Source - timecode originally embedded in the source clip. The window shows the names and source timecode of all of the clips at the playhead’s position.
Project - the time elapsed since the project’s starting timecode. The project timecode shows the project’s timecode at the current playhead position.
Both of these windows are resizable and have customizable display settings.
Though not shown in the video, you can also add a Timecode generator to superimpose timecode over your project. From the Generators sidebar, go to the Elements category and locate the Timecode generator. It is added to the timeline as a connected clip.
You can add the generator to the start of your project and extend it the entire length of your project to display the timecode for your project. There are also adjustable settings in the inspector.
