New hoist system for my kayak. Room for more toys now! Used two 7' by 3" PVC pipe between the 2x4s which are spaced 6 feet apart. The Hobie Pro Angler has two tunnels down the length of the hull with somewhat variable spacing, roughly 2 inches between the widest section to the narrowest. The PVC pipe used is somewhat flexible commonly used as drain pipe. It comes with a rigid female coupler at one end of its 10' length. The pipe has a white outer PVC cover over a black ABS type core. The flexibility allows it to conforms to the shape of the boat displacing more wight over a larger area. This should prevent any deformation of the hull. I used a Harbor Freight hoist in the ceiling with wire rope and pulley system as seen on YouTube. FYI my garage ceiling is just over 9' hight and my Ford F250 Super Duty 4x4 has plenty of room below. I will also install fixed cables/leashes in the ceiling down to each side of the 2x4s as a safety system.
