Usually, you will have to wear a retainer 24/7 for a few weeks, and then it will lessen to 12 hours a day. Eventually, you will only have to wear a retainer at night. After braces, retainers should be worn for life to keep teeth in their correct positions. As we age, our teeth are always moving, but retainers will keep movement from happening.
