Here is a guide on what to do if you get the following error message when attempting to start the Valorant game client:
There was an error connecting to the platform. Please restart your game client.

EDIT: Another solution is to spam WASD-keys when launching the game.

What worked for me was to simply re-install the game (uninstall and install again).
Others have suggested restarting the game and/or computer.
Also make sure you don't have any Valorant-related processes that may disturb running before starting the game.
