How to Build a Retro Gaming Console with Raspberry Pi – step-by-step Tutorial
Turn your Raspberry Pi into the ultimate retro gaming console! In this tutorial, I’ll show you step-by-step how to create your own retro gaming system using Raspberry Pi and Recalbox.
We’ll start by choosing and 3D-printing a custom case, then downloading and using the Raspberry Pi Imager to install Recalbox on an SD card.

🔧 Here’s what I did to build my console:
Chose a case: I picked and 3D-printed a custom case for the Raspberry Pi to give it a unique look.
Downloaded Raspberry Pi Imager: I visited the official Raspberry Pi website to download the Imager tool for setting up the system.
Installed Recalbox: Using the Raspberry Pi Imager, I selected my - Raspberry Pi model and installed Recalbox. I’ll also explain why I chose Recalbox over RetroPie, which is another great option.
Assembled the console: I put everything together—connected the Raspberry Pi to the case, added the SD card, and set it up.
Connected to the TV: Once the system was ready, I powered it up, connected it to my TV, and configured the controllers.
Tested the games: Finally, I tested everything to make sure it worked seamlessly with a wide variety of controllers.
