Theorem 6.1 : If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
Theorem 6.2 : If a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, then the line is parallel to the third side.
Example 1 : If a line intersects sides AB and AC of a Δ ABC at D and E respectively and is parallel to BC, prove that AD/AE = AB/AC.
Example 2 : ABCD is a trapezium with AB || DC. E and F are points on non-parallel sides AD and BC respectively such that EF is parallel to AB. Show that AE/ED = BF/FC.
Example 3 : In Fig. 6.16, PS/SQ = PT/TR and ∠ PST = ∠ PRQ. Prove that PQR is an isosceles triangle.

Q1. In Fig. 6.17, (i) and (ii), DE || BC. Find EC in (i) and AD in (ii).
Q2. E and F are points on the sides PQ and PR respectively of a Δ PQR. For each of the following cases, state whether EF || QR :
(i) PE = 3.9 cm, EQ = 3 cm, PF = 3.6 cm and FR = 2.4 cm
(ii) PE = 4 cm, QE = 4.5 cm, PF = 8 cm and RF = 9 cm
(iii) PQ = 1.28 cm, PR = 2.56 cm, PE = 0.18 cm and PF = 0.36 cm
Q3. In Fig. 6.18, if LM || CB and LN || CD, prove that AM/AN =AB/AD
Q4. In Fig. 6.19, DE || AC and DF || AE. Prove that BF/BE = FE/EC⋅

Q6. In Fig. 6.21, A, B and C are points on OP, OQ and OR respectively such that AB || PQ and AC || PR. Show that BC || QR.
Q7. Using Theorem 6.1, prove that a line drawn through the mid-point of one side of a triangle parallel to another side bisects the third side. (Recall that you have proved it in Class IX). Fig. 6.20
Q8. Using Theorem 6.2, prove that the line joining the mid-points of any two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side. (Recall that you have done it in Class IX).
Q9. ABCD is a trapezium in which AB || DC and its diagonals intersect each other at the point O. Show that AO/BO = C/ODO Fig. 6.21
Q10. The diagonals of a quadrilateral ABCD intersect each other at the point O such that AO/BO = CO/DO. Show that ABCD is a trapezium.
प्रमेय 6.1: यदि किसी त्रिभुज की एक भुजा के समानांतर अन्य दो भुजाओं को अलग-अलग बिंदुओं पर काटने के लिए एक रेखा खींची जाए, तो अन्य दो भुजाएं समान अनुपात में विभाजित हो जाती हैं।
प्रमेय 6.2: यदि एक रेखा किसी त्रिभुज की किन्हीं दो भुजाओं को समान अनुपात में विभाजित करती है, तो रेखा तीसरी भुजा के समानांतर होती है।
उदाहरण 1: यदि एक रेखा Δ ABC की भुजाओं AB और AC को क्रमशः D और E पर काटती है और BC के समानांतर है, तो सिद्ध करें कि AD/AE = AB/AC है।
उदाहरण 2: ABCD, AB || वाला एक समलंब है डी.सी. E और F क्रमशः गैर-समानांतर भुजाओं AD और BC पर इस प्रकार बिंदु हैं कि EF, AB के समानांतर है। दिखाएँ कि AE/ED = BF/FC।
उदाहरण 3: आकृति 6.16 में, PS/SQ = PT/TR और ∠ PST = ∠ PRQ। सिद्ध कीजिए कि PQR एक समद्विबाहु त्रिभुज है।

Q1. चित्र 6.17, (i) और (ii) में, DE || ईसा पूर्व. (i) में EC और (ii) में AD खोजें।

Q8. प्रमेय 6.2 का प्रयोग करते हुए सिद्ध कीजिए कि त्रिभुज की किन्हीं दो भुजाओं के मध्य-बिंदुओं को मिलाने वाली रेखा तीसरी भुजा के समानांतर होती है। (याद रखें कि आपने इसे कक्षा IX में किया है)।
