Why do classic games feel better than modern ones?

Is it really just nostalgia… or has something else changed?

In this video, I explore why older games often feel easier to enjoy — especially as adults living in a world full of notifications, responsibilities, and endless content. Modern games are bigger, deeper, and more complex than ever before… but depth comes at a cost.

We’ll talk about:

▸The modern attention economy
▸Decision fatigue and cognitive load
▸Why open-world design can feel exhausting
▸The inflation of game length and scale
▸And why simplicity might matter more today than ever

This isn’t an attack on modern games. Some of my favorite experiences of all time come from titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, and other modern RPGs. But maybe classic games weren’t just “better” — maybe they were better suited to the way we now live.

If you’ve ever booted up a huge RPG after a long day and immediately thought “not tonight”… this video might resonate.
