Jyrgalan, Kyrgyzstan ➖ After the failed attempt to get into Engilchek a few days prior, we decided to check out the next best-abandoned city. With a quick 1-hour drive from Karakol, we made it into the town of Jyrgalan. An old soviet mining town that has been vastly abandoned due to the collapse of the soviet union. However with the recent spike in tourism across Kyrgyzstan and specifically Karakol, Jyrgalan has become a very popular escape for both local and international visitors.
Jake had previously stayed in Jyrgalan and knew of a guest house we could stay at. We checked in and ended up sleeping on the floor of a yurt, with 2 Kyrgyz men, who we later found out were very skilled in all things nomad. We then set out to explore the town and checked out a variety of cool abandoned places, and roamed around the beautiful wilderness of Jyrgalan.
