Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike Day 21-28| Its Not Getting Easier
2023 Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike | Near Daleville, Virginia
Hiking through Virginia on my 2023 Appalachian Trail thru-hike started feeling different near Daleville. After spending months backpacking northbound on the AT, the miles were beginning to wear on me physically and mentally in ways I didn’t expect when this journey first started.
The excitement of the early days on the Appalachian Trail had faded into routine — wake up, pack up camp, hike all day, repeat. But somewhere along the trail near Daleville, Virginia, I started reflecting on how much this backpacking journey was changing me.
Long distance hiking strips life down to the essentials. The mountains, the exhaustion, the quiet moments alone with your thoughts, and the constant forward movement all start teaching lessons that are hard to explain unless you’ve experienced thru hiking yourself.
In this episode I continue hiking northbound through Virginia, reflect on trail life, and push through another day on the Appalachian Trail while chasing Katahdin one mile at a time.
