Sharpening, searing, testing: the entire process in detail - how to make it from oak and birch firewood.
!!! WELCOME to my Telegram channel https://t.me/HSL_MikhailDemin !!!
I had a request to make a spice grinder as a gift.
I used a 135 mm long mechanism with ceramic millstones as a base (link below).
For the body, I used a naturally dried birch log (3 years) and an oak log from a sauna woodshed (also 3-4 years old).
The entire process is shown in detail in the video.
Main diameters and depths:
in the mill body - 42x20 mm, then 38x35 mm, then 25 mm through;
in the mill lid - 22x40 mm.
I finished the surface with 120, 180, 240, and 320 grit sandpaper.
I sanded it with a mixture of petroleum jelly and beeswax—the original weight ratio was 4:1. I added about 10% carnauba wax to this mixture. Everything was mixed at a temperature of 80-90 degrees.
I finished the sanding with oil-wax to prevent burrs in the wood grain.
The final design is simple and attractive.
The dimensions of the birch mill are: height 160 mm, maximum diameter 60 mm, minimum 50 mm.
The oak mill is 1-2 mm smaller in all dimensions.
