HOW TO LEARN TAILWHIPS ON A SCOOTER IN 5 MINUTES!
Learn tailwhips on a pro scooter by watching this short 5-minute instructional video by one of our Pro Riders - Matty Ceravolo.
Tailwhips are one of the most popular and essential tricks when it comes to pro scooter riding and is a must-have on the tricklist!
Learn how to do tailwhips today with these 4 simple steps.
Step 1: Learn and Practice the motion
First things first, we need to figure out what your preferred way to do a tail-whip is, left or right, there's no wrong way to do this, it all comes down to what feels most comfortable for you. Although I would suggest learning tail-whips the toe-side is going to be much more beneficial in the future.
Once you have figured out your preferred way to tail-whip, it's time to practice the motion. The tail-whip, unlike the barspin, is going to involve both your legs and arms to actually perform the trick. I would recommend starting out getting the motion down just standing on flat ground.
Step 2: Bunnyhops - Jumping out of ramps/banks
To perform this trick you are going to need to be able to get enough height on your bunny hops or flying out of quarters pipes and banks. This is something you're going to need to practice as it is going to be extremely important when it comes to getting the entire motion around.
Step 3: Attempting the trick - Spotting the trick
Now it's time to put it to the test by applying what you've just learnt. Once you've gotten to the point where you can spin the motion of a tail-whip on flat ground or out of a ramp, my biggest piece of advice to everyone is to always spot your tail-whip when it's coming around and keep your feet TOGETHER. By keeping your feet together you're ensuring that if one foot can get to it, both of them can.
Step 4: Practice makes perfect
This is the most important step and that is PRACTICE! Don't be discouraged if you don't land this trick your first time ever trying it or even the 10th, even the best of the best pro riders had to start somewhere and it all comes to down to repetition. The more you practice this trick and the motion of it, the more likely you are to land it and get them dialled!
