Docker is the engine that powers everything in this series. Once you understand containers, you'll never install apps the old way again.

In this episode we install Docker from the official repo, set up Docker Compose, and deploy Portainer — a visual web dashboard so you can manage all your containers without touching the terminal.

🧱 What we will do in this video:
• What a Docker container is and why it's better than traditional installs
• Install Docker on Ubuntu Desktop from the official Docker repo
• Set up Docker Compose for clean, repeatable app deployments
• Deploy Portainer — a browser-based dashboard for all your Docker containers
• Tour of the Portainer UI — containers, images, volumes, stacks

📌 This is Episode 2 of the Homelab Build Series — Phase 1 (Beginner).
Watch Episode 1 first: Ubuntu Desktop install & first boot.

💡 Note: We install Docker via the terminal (not Docker Desktop) — this is the recommended method for home servers running Ubuntu Desktop.
