TOP 5 Final Cut Pro Tips for YOUTUBE. Check out my Top 5 FCPX Tips for YouTubers

NOW is a great time to be a filmmaker. Making movies used to require a large budget, film crews, expensive equipment, distribution companies, etc.. NOT ANYMORE. All you need now is a camera, which most of us have in our pockets, and a story to tell. Anyone can have their film, movie, or video seen by thousands millions of people, all thanks to YouTube.

With over 1.3 billion users, and 300 hours of video uploaded every minute, YouTube is the world’s most popular video sharing site, and the 2nd largest search engine on the web. Anyone can upload their video to YouTube. Internet video has put making films within reach of basically everyone who has a story to tell. To quote a great filmmaker in the internet video age

“Filmmaking is ours. Filmmaking is a sport”

Casey Neistat

There is a catch though…. With so much content being uploaded every minute, its very easy to get your movie lost in the sea of content. You first need to have good content. No matter how much SEO research, advertising, or social media promoting you do, if you don’t have a good, great story to tell in your video, people aren’t going to watch. Once you do have a great video to share with the world, there IS a few things you can do to help your video get noticed. Follow the five FCPX Tips below to make your video stand out, and help you find your audience.

1. Video Thumbnail

Your video thumbnail is one of the most important elements in helping your video get discovered. When browsing YouTube, your thumbnail will be the first thing the viewer sees, even before they read your video title. Check out the video above to learn how to create a custom, high resolution thumbnail for your video, right in Final Cut Pro

2. End Screens

Once the viewer click on your video, and watches it, next step is to keep them watching your content. YouTube’s End Screens are a powerful tool, designed to keep your viewer engaged with your content. YouTube lets you add clickable links during the last 5 to 20 seconds of your video, used to point viewers to other videos or playlists, add a call to subscribe to your channel, or promote your website.

3. Royalty Free Music

There are paid options, where you either pay a one time fee or a recurring monthly subscription fee. This grants you access to the provider’s entire music library. Thought, much smaller and lesser quality, there are free resources of royalty free music. YouTube has its own library of royalty free music and sound effects, for creators to use.

4. Custom Export Settings

Final Cut Pro comes with a built in YouTube share preset, but thats a one size fits all setting, and may not be ideal for some video types. If you own Apple’s Compressor, you can create your own custom export preset for optimal YouTube performance. This will ensure your video retains maximum audio and video quality, while keeping the file size as small as possible. Use YouTube’s recommended upload encoder settings for best quality. In the video above, you will learn how to make a custom upload preset in Compressor, and import it into Final Cut Pro as a share preset.

5. Create Promotional GIFs in FCPX

Promoting your video across social media can tremendously help your video get discovered. A teaser trailer may be the difference in people just scrolling by your link, or clicking on it. A GIF, or an animated image, can be a great tool for promoting your content. A GIF can be uploaded to any social media platform, and will auto play in most places.

If you own Apple’s Compressor, GIFs can be created and exported directly in Final Cut Pro. In the video above, I will show you how to select a range from your timeline and export it as an animated image, or a GIF file.
