When you see GoDaddy ads everywhere, it’s easy to assume it’s the obvious choice for domains, hosting, and site building. But after testing GoDaddy throughout 2025 — from hosting, to their website builder, to domain management and eCommerce options — I’m ready to share the honest truth: where GoDaddy still delivers, where it lAGS behind, and whether it deserves your money in 2025.
Just a quick heads-up: when you make a purchase through our links, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
What I Tested & My Criteria
To be fair, I didn’t just check one facet — I used GoDaddy as a full platform for a small business site over several months. I tested:
Website builder usability and limitations
Shared hosting performance under realistic traffic
Domain management, renewals, and upsells
eCommerce/store features
Support responsiveness and real problem solving
Pricing structure over time (intro vs renewal)
What GoDaddy Does Well
Simplicity & Convenience
If you already have a domain or hosting with GoDaddy, everything is under one roof. The integrated dashboard, easy domain linking, SSL activation, and site setup are all convenient. For non-technical users, this “one-stop shop” model is a major comfort.
Domain Registrar & Domain Tools
GoDaddy remains a powerhouse in domains. Search, registration, transfer, DNS management — these are mature, fast, and reliable. If domain control is your priority, GoDaddy still holds up strong.
Strong Support Presence
They offer 24/7 chat and phone support. When I ran into issues (plugin conflicts, DNS records, SSL timeouts), their support team responded fast. Some answers were generic, but overall, for everyday issues, support is solid and accessible.
Basic eCommerce & Store Builder for Small Sellers
For very small catalogs, GoDaddy’s store builder can do the job: it supports product listings, payments, shipping settings, and basic marketing features without much setup friction. If you’re selling a few products and want simplicity, it works.
Where GoDaddy Falls Short (2025 Version)
Performance & Speed
GoDaddy’s shared hosting isn’t always top-tier. Under moderate traffic, pages slowed. Their architecture hasn’t fully caught up with modern performance standards (LiteSpeed, edge caching, etc.). For large sites or traffic spikes, it shows.
Upsells & Hidden Costs
GoDaddy is ambitious with upselling. Domain renewals, WHOIS privacy, email, site backups — many “essentials” are paid add-ons. You have to be vigilant at checkout. The intro pricing is tempting, but the renewal shock can hurt.
Limited Flexibility in Site Building
Their built-in site builder is easy, but not deep. Advanced layouts, custom code, or unusual design elements often hit limitations. If your vision is unique, you may feel constrained by templates and builder logic.
Scaling Limitations
As your site grows — more products, complex integrations, or many pages — GoDaddy’s tools become less ideal. Things like advanced checkout flows, versioning, custom scripts, or headless setups aren’t well supported.
Redeeming Features vs Best-in-Class
GoDaddy offers a lot of pieces — domain, hosting, builder, email — but none of them is best-in-class on its own. For builders or hosts specializing in performance or eCommerce, GoDaddy can lag behind in depth and features.
Verdict: Who Should Use GoDaddy in 2025?
GoDaddy still makes sense for:
Beginners or small businesses who want a simple, unified solution
Those who prefer convenience over deep customization
Users with modest traffic and simpler site needs
People who value strong domain tools and reliable support
But if you need:
High performance or scaling
Deep design and customization control
Advanced eCommerce or large catalogs
Best-in-class hosting features
…then you may outgrow GoDaddy. In 2025, it’s no longer the “go-to for everything,” but it’s still a decent starting point, so long as you go in with awareness of its trade-offs.
By the end of this video, you’ll know exactly where GoDaddy shines — and where you might want to look elsewhere for a better long-term investment.
