Transcript:
A combined photograph of a young and old woman. In the bottom half it shows a young woman peeling and lifting what looks to be her skin upwards to the top half where it shows an elderly woman. This photo is frequently used as a stock photograph, and was originally posted on Getty Images by the account G. Baden. The photo is a digital composite of two different images also posted by G. Baden, including this original of the old woman. The original of the younger woman is not available however another photo from the same shoot is available, note the purple sweater. This shoot is part of a larger series of photos including these two models. Interestingly the Getty Images page connected to the composite image is no longer navigable nor able to be reached via the Internet Archive despite me accessing this webpage on November 30th. A screenshot that I took at that time confirms that the composite image in question is licensed, and now restricted. The image also has a signed model release meaning that the models have granted permission that the image be used. And the image is frequently used across the internet today. Frequently it is shown alongside dermatology, wish products, face peels, or plastic surgery online advertisements. It is often used in listicles and other online publications, including this Forbes article which cites Wikipedia as the source of the image. When searching for the image contained to Wikipedia's domain there is no record of it. It seems as though that this image was properly licensed and the rights where purchased by an individual or it was subject to a Getty images Market-freeze which removes images from their site. However, the internet got hold of the image and it is so pervasively posted that DMCA and copyright infringement takedowns cannot keep up, or have ceased with the spread of this image online thus propelling it to become a meme. There is even a meme account that uses this image as their profile picture named, OH SHIT MY FACE, with the handle @OHNOMYFACE. They created their account in March of 2011 and with little other information we can assume the image is at least that old.
