Abandoned Railroad Restored with New Interlocking / Train Tracks / Signals and Road
It isn't often we get to see an abandoned railroad & crossing coming back to life or resurrected but here we do! This is the CSX FEC connector track with a wye at Northwood in West Palm Beach, Florida. It is being revitalized to relieve rail traffic so Brightline can travel easier on the FEC main. The "CSX" tracks are owned by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority SFRTA which CSX sold to them around 1991 under the condition of track rights in addition to Amtrak and Tri rail also. They were originally built by Seaboard Air Line in 1926 ( to bring tourism to Miami and Homestead ) then Seaboard Coast Line SCL then Seaboard Systems and eventually CSX in 1986. The FEC railway tracks were built in the 1890s and nowadays see freight trains and Brightline passenger trains daily. In this video you can notice some differences from 2011, such as the grade crossing & no crossing gates & no street on the North side of the tracks are just a few. Join me for some railroad archaeology and history in this video!
