Which camera comes out on top? A 12 megapixel or 16 megapixel camera?

Wonder if the new iPhone 6 Plus bends? http://www.mobilereviews-eh.ca/bendga...

What else have we reviewed? http://www.mobilereviews-eh.ca/

Now there’s a lot more to a camera than Mega-pixels and there’s been a slew of upgrades to the camera since then but with the 6S, the 8 megapixel sensor is now an amazing 12 which is still amazingly, 25% percent smaller than the 16 megapixels of the S6 Edge. But, its not all about the megapixels.

So for this comparison, I took several pictures of the same object between the three cameras. I doubled my photo taking expedition with my iPhone 6S Plus bendgate test so if that’s of interest to you, you can find links are in the description section below. Also, this comparison is only for camera stills, not video. If you’re interested in video, I’ve got a video for that as well.

And here’s what I’ve come up with. The 6S is the better camera if you like snapping action shots and if you enjoy having photographs with richer colors. But if you’re bit into selfies and panoramic stills, go with the S6 Edge.

The difference between the iPhone 6 and 6S aren’t terribly noticeable despite the fact that Apple makes it sound like they re-invented the camera on their website. The extra megapixels does help in capturing more detail so that means you can be a little more flexible in your photography. I didn’t really notice any difference in terms of color captured between the two cameras which is something that’s important when compared to the S6 Edge.

The 6S does a bit better in terms of low light conditions as there’s less noise in the photographs but all in all, the 6S’s camera isn’t earth shattering but this is expected given that a lot of the behind the scene features already existed on the 6. Apple literally just added more megapixels to the setup.

The front facing camera is a little different. Its a 5 megapixel camera which is significantly larger than its predecessor which had a 1.2 megapixel camera. The photos are definitely clearer and better but the addition of the screen becoming the flash makes a big difference in the general quality of the photo.

Now between the 6S and S6 Edge, things get a little more interesting. Right off the bat, the actual image dimensions are quite different. The S6 Edge captures more stuff going from left to right whereas the photos by the 6S are taller.

Panoramic shots are way more epic with the S6 Edge as you capture more of that panorama. Viewing the photographs are incredibly on S6 Edge because it fills up the entire screen whereas the photos on the 6S fill up 80% of the screen.

On the flip side, the 6S images work better if you’re doing macro photos or shooting food. Taller images will allow you to focus those sorts of subjects better.

In terms of picture quality, the S6 generally captures photos are a little over exposed in my opinion which makes the photo’s seem duller. In this panoramic shot, the sky in the 6S photo is a deeper blue but the S6’s is a little washed out.

But on the flip side, the S6’s tendency to overexpose photos works in its favour during low-light situations.

Onto the selfie camera which the 6S closes the gap on the Edge but the Edge still comes out on top solely because of its wider field of view and because it shoots 1080p video but the screen flash on the 6S will make its tiny selfies better. So I guess the question is…how many friends do you have? If you have lots, then get the Edge because they’re be able to get into your selfie. And you can use the beauty setting to make their faces all look like plastic. Because that’s a great look.

Now the last thing I noticed was that the auto-focus on the 6S is pretty awesome and is way better than the auto-focus on the Edge which seems to give way too much precedence on focusing on things at the edge then on the thing in front of the camera.
