Oiling door locks: Graphite powder for stiff locks, squeaky hinges, and much more.
If the door lock is stiff or frozen, the hinge squeaks, or the latch is stuck, then a multi-purpose oil is usually used. While this almost always achieves the desired result in the short term, it's not always the best long-term choice. Why? Because a dry lubricant is particularly suitable for use in locking cylinders. Otherwise, over time, the oil will stick together with dust and dirt, forming a wonderfully solid mass.
Dry lubricants such as graphite powder are therefore ideal for lubricating locking cylinders, hinges, door stops, and even door latches.
