The book I chose to read during Banned Book Week in 2010, The Tin Drum faced legal challenges in Germany and, in 1997, the 1979 film version was taken from library shelves and confiscated from the home of a citizen in my home-town of Oklahoma City. Grass was finally awarded the Nobel Prize forty years after the book's publication.
