The finals of the 1998 US Open was between “The Rifleman” Buddy Hall and Tang Hoa from California. This was a repeat of the hot-seat match, where Buddy defeated Tang.
Buddy was looking for his second US Open 9-Ball title, having won it first in 1991.
Tang, who was just starting to burst onto the pro scene, was looking for his first major title win.
