Many people have hobbies; some like to travel, ride bikes, sing, dance, and more. But without a doubt, this man's profession is unique and has left us in awe.
Ra Paulette is a 79-year-old man who lives in New Mexico, USA. In 1990, he discovered a mountain a few miles from his home, and without hesitation, he dug and scraped the mountainsides to create incredible caves. He then carved and polished them, using only a wheelbarrow, a shovel, and his dog.
The caves are illuminated only by natural light that enters through the ceilings, and each cave has its own unique characteristics. Because we can find incredible shapes, figures, and details, it's impossible to believe he did it all by hand.
Ra Paulette has spent 25 years excavating caves, creating true works of art. After his time and the work he invests in them, the majestic caves that were once nothing but darkness and oblivion become true sanctuaries. Paulette calls them "Windows in the Earth."
What's most surprising is that throughout his career, this man has created a total of 14 caves of different sizes, and even more incredible is that several caves have furnished rooms, all located in northern New Mexico, between Taos and Santa Fe.
The artist Ra Paulette finally received the recognition he deserved for his magnificent creation. His life's work was featured in a short documentary film nominated for an Academy Award in 2014. There are several short films about other sanctuaries he has created since then.
