I found out today that two of my favourite things play nice together. In face it took me about 5 minutes to install the plugin, set it up, and have it working seamlessly. Now what’s the plugin? Smart Slider 3, which is a fantastic slider plugin that is free to use. They may have upgrades, but the free version is so detailed and professional looking that I’ve never bothered to do it.

I tested it out and because Smart Slider 3 comes with a dummy slideshow, it was a simple matter of finding the Smart Slider element in the Elementor panel and drag it onto the page. Voila working slider!

To edit the slider, you go into the Smart Slider 3 control panel and pick your slideshow as you would normally on a regular WordPress site. All the editing of the slider is done in the control panel, and then you just view it in the Elementor page.

One feature that’s in Elementor that I would like to see in Smart Slider is a background overlay that you can make a gradient, so the image has a gradient overlay on it. I haven’t found that option yet in Smart Slider 3, but I’m going to request it because it’s very helpful in that it’s a non destructive solution that doesn’t require Photoshop or any image editor, just CSS.
