The famous Dambuster's bouncing bomb found a new purpose later in the war - bypassing Japanese defences to strike at its surviving fleet.
Barnes Wallis' design was refined and adapted for use in DeHaviland Mosquito strike fighters. Testing was complete and a squadron deployed before the surrender of Japan ended Operation Highball.
