Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is located in Southeast Asia, bordered by the Andaman Sea to the south and the Bay of Bengal to the southwest. The country has approximately 55 million inhabitants and borders India, Bangladesh, China, Laos, and Thailand.

Considered one of the poorest countries in Asia, agriculture is its main economic activity, accounting for 70% of the national workforce. The nation cultivates a variety of crops, notably rice and poppies.

In 2011, Myanmar became a parliamentary democracy, but since 2021, this status has been challenged by a military coup that removed the country's rulers and restored the military to power. The nation is experiencing a social crisis and has been accused of human rights violations.

It is within this critical context that today's mega-project, the municipality of Naypyidaw, lies. It is the capital of Myanmar, considered a ghost town, whose construction cost US$4 billion.
