Jonathan James stole code from NASA that was worth over a million dollars. He became the first juvenile to be convicted of cybercrime in the United States. Sadly, James committed suicide at the age of 24 years. Jeremy Hammond stole the details of 60,000 credit cards and used them to donate to charities. He also hacked into the emails of global intelligence company Stratfor and released the information he found on WikiLeaks. Back in 1988, Robert Tappan Morris created the Morris worm which infected thousands of computers. Morris committed this act at a time when the internet was relatively new and is sometimes considered a forerunner to the modern hacker.
Kevin Mitnick hacked the DEC, Pacific Bell, Motorola, and Nokia systems. He became an FBI fugitive and spent several years in prison before starting his own computer security consulting company. Scottish tech genius Gary McKinnon hacked into the US Military and NASA computers and kept changing passwords. Gary McKinnon was arrested and charged in the United Kingdom and the US keeps demanding he be extradited to be charged for cyber crime.
