0:25 This wine cellar project began when the homeowner called us and let us know he wanted to build a wine cellar with included storage and display for his prized whiskey collection. We were happy to take the project and scheduled a consultation.
0:42 Once we knew what the client had in mind we created a custom 3D CAD drawing so the client could see how the finished cellar would look. Once he signed off, we began construction of his home wine storage.
1:00 The correct racking for the specific needs of this cellar was a critical element. In addition to the wine racks, we needed to include shelving for a number of whiskey bottles. We chose a curved corner wine rack kit with individual bottle openings and diamond bin racking for additional storage. We also incorporated 3 large, open bins for holding bourbon bottles of different sizes.
1:31 Quarter round display shelves were added on one end for additional storage or display of figurines or other decoration. At the center of the racking is a custom arch with storage for wine glasses. This cellar has a total capacity of 395 wine bottles.
1:54 We choose wooden wine racking made of Cambara Mahogany, built by Genuwine Cellars. They have a strong reputation for excellent craftsmanship, creativity, and world-class products. Cambara Mahogany was the chosen wood for this project because of its legendary durability at naturally rich tones. The vibrant color of the wood works perfectly with the theme and feel of this cellar.
2:39 We chose not to stain the wood, but instead to apply a clear lacquer, so the wood would take on a lovely sheen.
2:47 There are almost limitless options when it comes to lighting systems. We chose a variety of options for this cellar that would highlight the wine and whiskey bottles without adding heat to the room. We used ribbon lighting along the top of the racking, with puck lighting in the top of the niche in the center of the focal wall.
3:12 An LED lighting system with a dimmer was installed on the ceiling. We chose this wine cellar lighting option because it can be adjusted to the owner's preference and because it emits almost no heat.
3:26 Accessories were also an important feature in this cellar. The owner provided an amazing oak whiskey barrel, which we used as a display and storage table for whiskey bottles and accessories. It was a beautiful way to incorporate a personal treasure into this home wine room. Paintings, murals, maps, and other ornaments can be perfect additions to a custom home wine cellar.
