Breaking Boundaries: GMR-001 Hypercar Test at Portimão
The Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 Hypercar took its biggest step yet with a three-day test at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao. At the heart of the program was a 30-hour endurance run, designed to push the Hypercar prototype to its limits and reveal weaknesses ahead of its FIA World Endurance Championship debut in 2026.
Drivers Andre Lotterer, Pipo Derani, Mathys Jaubert, and Dani Juncadella shared the wheel across day and night, completing double and triple stints in demanding conditions. From engine durability and hybrid energy management to cooling, lighting, and tyre performance, every system was put under pressure to accelerate development.
For Jaubert and Juncadella, it was also the first time behind the wheel of the GMR-001, adding to the significance of the test. With lessons learned and data collected, the team now turns its focus toward refining performance as the program builds toward its FIA WEC debut.
Three days. One goal. Preparing the GMR-001 for the world’s toughest endurance races.
