Hi Guyz welcome to the first tutorial of this channel
In this video i will talk about how to compress files to Zip on a mac system
So in this video we will talk about how to compress the files on a mac system.
So first of all we will need a compression software. There are many of them available.
So we will go to AppStore and then you can search ZIP or compression software or other related query
So you will get many softwares in the AppStore. There are many Paid ones and there are many free ones.
So you can choose whatever suites you. But i prefer WinZip because its a standard software for compressing file.
We will need a file to compress. After Installing WinZip or any other software. Right Click on the file and in the services option you can see Add to Zip File…
Maybe you can get other options as well depending on the software you have installed for the compression.
After clicking it, you will get Pop up window with all of the options to create zip file.
So on the top, you can specify the name of compressed file. Here we will change the name to COMPRESSED.
then you can specify the place here, where you want to save the exported Zip file.
For the easy navigation, you can see all of these places here and here you can specify the place.
In the format options, we have 3 options in WinZip software, you may have further options as well depending on whatever software you have installed on your mac.
So i will use ZIP because its a universal format for compressed file and is almost supported by all of the softwares in the world.
If we will go with ZipX. There is another added feature in it but then the compatibility with other softwares will not be as good as zip file.
But with ZipX we will get more compressed file than ZIP.
So i will go with ZIP format this time.
Here you can see down below, there is an option called Encrypt.
If we will check that, you can see the two boxes are editable.
This option is used for security reasons, like if you have some personal date to be shared with your family members.
Here we will use the password 1234
And then we will repeat this password 1234
As you can see, both the fields have same characters, so now we can get this green signal that we can go ahead.
And we will click this Zip button. As you can see we have saved this COMPRESSED name file on the Desktop.
So the reason why i use Winzip is because first of all its a Universal for compressed files and second one is as you can see the original file size is 1.1MB and it compresses it to almost half of its size.
Now we will remove this file, so we can now extract the ZIP file. We will double-click on it.
As you can see, this is the file we will extract from this ZIP file. As you can see here, there is a lock icon on top of this file.
It indicates that this ZIP file is password protected and you need to give the password to extract the file.
So we will drag and drop this file on the desktop and now it will ask for the password.
So im making the show password, so you can see the password im typing.
So the password is 1234. When we click OK. So you can see the same file is now extracted on the desktop which was compressed on this ZIP file.
We will close this and you can see its the same file and the size after extracting is same 1.1MB which was before.
