What is Edutainment and why should we care?

They say that knowledge is power. Learning is moving from the darkness into the light. In fact, George Washington Carver said, "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom!"
The problem is that in today's world education sometimes gets a bad rap.
College is expensive!
Degrees can't guarantee a job!
Books are for nerds!
Well, the honest truth is that college might not be for everyone, but learning is! Why, you've been learning since the day you were born!
Education reformer Ken Robinson suggests we would do best to let our passions drive our desire to learn, but more importantly learning should be individualized, not standardized!
I am a lifelong learner, and I believe the learning can and SHOULD be fun for everyone!
Enter: Edutainment: Entertainment that is designed to teach something.
We learn in many ways; through experience, reading, studying, discussion, and teaching. Your mind is like a muscle, and you must exercise it.
The good news is that Learning doesn't have to be hard, and when your having fun along the way Learning can be a very natural experience!
This is where I believe the Arts can make a big difference. Film, in fact, can be a great source for education.
Walt Disney once said, "Movies can and do have tremendous influence in shaping young lives... towards the ideals and objectives of normal adulthood."
From film, children can learn not only reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also good moral values and standards that will help them in real world situations. From the History Channel, to YouTube's Sci-show, to TED Talks, there is more than enough education for anyone to enjoy! So it's about time we get excited about Learning. It's about time we SEE education the way it should be!
