During the 2021 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, Valtteri Bottas pitted but his front right tyre couldn't come off his car. After the race, Toto Wolff claimed the wheel nut had cross threaded, so here's an explainer of what cross threading is!
At the time of making the video, Toto had said that the pit crew had cross threaded the wheel nut, which I took as the fact and based the video around that.
But since the video has been released, Mercedes have now said that the wheel gun had machined the nut removing the driving faces.
So rather than the thread being ripped to shreds, it was actually the nut itself - Apologies for getting it wrong but hopefully you've learnt a bit about cross threading 😅
