The Open Championship is the oldest golf championship in the world and in the 1920s, the first wave of American golfers started to make an impact on the great tournament.
Jock Hutchison became the first American to lift the Claret Jug in 1921. Followed by victories for the four-time winner, Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones, who won three championships in five years.
Between 1924 and 1933, U.S. players exclusively won The Open. During the 1940s and 1950s, it was Sam Snead and Ben Hogan who triumphed on UK soil.
It was in the 1960s however when an influx of talented players from the United States helped popularise The Open to a more global audience.
Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, followed by Lee Trevino and Tom Watson made history with Championship wins and magical moments.
