ICE's Hiring Spree Is A Dangerous Incompetent MESS
Kristi Noem promised Trump 10,000 new ICE agents and rushed to deliver — and insiders say the result is a “circus” and a “s---show.” Slashed standards, shortened training, rushed vetting, and big bonuses have pulled in recruits who fail open-book tests, show up with gang and white supremacist tattoos, test positive for drugs after training starts, and in one case include a 469‑pound man whose own doctor said he was unfit for physical activity. DHS officials admit they’re now hiring people who “are not equipped to tie their own shoelaces,” and then handing them badges and guns.

This is what Trump-era “law and order” really looks like: authoritarian power built on total incompetence. Instead of a professional, accountable agency, Noem and Trump are assembling a barely vetted deportation force to carry out mass removals — with gutted training, tech band-aids, and chaos inside the ranks. When your priority is hitting a political hiring number and staging glam “ICE Barbie” photo-ops, the public, migrants, and democracy all end up at the mercy of the worst people you could possibly put in uniform.
