Sequences in SQL Server.

Although the Microsoft world has used the Identity field to auto-number tables since its inception, it often presents limitations, for example: Updates to identity fields are not allowed.

To address this, in 2012 Microsoft included Sequences in SQL Server! Did you know that??

Yes, SQL now has Sequences as an alternative for controlling the identities (ID) of its records.
