In June 2008, telecommunications giant Verizon Wireless announced its acquisition of Little Rock-based Alltel Corporation, creating the largest wireless company in the United States. Lowell McAdam, president and CEO of Verizon, introduces Alltel employees and Little Rock to the Verizon company in a public event hosted by the Clinton School. Highlighting the success of both Alltel and Verizon in a competitive market, McAdam candidly describes Verizon's commitment to strong civic presence, discusses the impacts of the merger and addresses concerns about the ramifications of the acquisition for the Little Rock community. McAdam is introduced by U.S. Senator Mark Pryor, who invited him to speak in Little Rock.
