The Phone Call No Tractor Salesperson Wants
My least favorite phone call, when I worked in a dealership, was someone asking for a price on a new front end loader. Those never ended well.
The typical situation was that a customer had purchased a used tractor with no loader thinking they could find something used to mount on it. Used front end loaders are hard, if not impossible, to find, and they'll sell at a premium price. I don't recommend "blacksmithing" a loader on a tractor it wasn't designed to fit. It may work fine, but if not braced correctly, it could cause a frame failure. That's a nice way of saying it could break the tractor in two. So the phone call comes from someone who is already frustrated that they can't find what they're looking for.
New loader on used tractors never seem to work economically. The price of a new front end loader will usually exceed the amount of money that a customer has spent for the used tractor, and be more than what a good used tractor-loader combination would cost. In addition, getting a price for a new front end loader is an extremely cumbersome project for a salesperson. You have to pay strict attention to notes that show what the loader won't fit, and if you don't, you can order a loader that won't fit your customer's tractor and be very difficult to sell to anyone else.
Best plan as a customer, is to find a used tractor that already has a front loader on it, or price the new loader before shopping for the tractor so you know what you're getting into. You have to buy the used no-loader tractor really cheap for it to make sense economically. The number of companies that offer new front end loaders is also declining, so there's not a lot of competition to keep prices down.
So, if your dealership salesperson won't get back with you on the price for a new front end loader, that's why. They don't want to be the bearer of bad news and I fully understand why.
