What is the difference between a PoE injector and PoE switch?
If you want to implement PoE devices in your home network, you need to have a PoE injector or a PoE switch.
PoE injectors and PoE switches accomplish the same thing: they serve as power sources for PoE devices.
With that said, there are differences between them.
A PoE injector is made to power one PoE device. PoE injectors are generally smaller and cheaper than PoE switches, and they’re best used in situations where you only have one PoE device in your home network, or your PoE devices aren’t located near each other.
PoE switches are made to provide power to multiple PoE devices. They are more expensive than PoE injectors, but they can provide 4 (or more depending upon the type of switch) PoE devices with power. PoE switches are best used in situations where you have multiple PoE devices located in the same area.
Keep in mind that some people will implement both types of PoE power sources in their home networks. It’s very important to do some planning before making any purchasing decisions so you can optimize the location of the PoE devices in your home.
