"How long do zygoma implants last?"
Most zygoma implants will last for a long time (20+ years), however they may be some intractable complications which necessitate removal of a zygomatic implant. Fortunately these types of complications are very rare.

They can be divided either in mechanical complications or biologic complications. I checked my database for occurrence of these complications

Mechanical complications which jeopardize the function of a zygomatic implants are: fracture of the zygomatic implants (3/1000), fracture of prosthetic screws or abutment screws stuck inside the implant rendering the implant unusable (2/1000)

Biological complications which jeopardize the function of a zygomatic implant are: untreatable sinus pathology (5/1000) , untreatable infection of the perizygomatic region (22/1000) , non-integration of the zygomatic implant (20/1000) diagnosed within one year after initial treatment.

It must be noted that the occurrence of complications is related to the experience of the surgical and prosthetic team.

The occurrence of perizygomatic infections coud be due to excessive overtorquing the zygoma implants , non integration and early loss of the zygomatic implant could be due to lack of experience or too much confidence during the surgery, or just wrong surgical technique!
