Disney’s Dinosaur: 25th Anniversary
It’s been 25 years since the release of Disney’s first photorealistic animated feature, Dinosaur. I don’t have the most concrete recollection of what my very most childhood movies were, but one thing’s for certain is that even when I was only 3 years old, Dinosaur was the very first Walt Disney Feature Animated film that I consciously remember watching as a toddler.
Through this movie, I was single-handedly introduced to this era of mighty creatures, dragons, behemoths, terrible lizards that once ruled the earth and it didn’t take long me to figure out that dinosaurs are primarily my favorite animals. And it’s all thanks to this film.
Some say it could’ve been better, but I’m one of those that I very content with the finished product and what I was able to get out of it, even though I agree that certain creative decisions would’ve enhanced the story tremendously such as the lore surrounding Old Gotoma, which still remains relevant to me in my headcanon.
But I digress, because in the grand scheme of things, I just can’t get past the overarching fact that it is a photorealistic motion picture consisting only of dinos that pulls little-to-no punches when it comes to addressing the harsh qualities of realities of survival set forth by a darker image of nature. Thus being one of those Disney movies that don’t execute that same whimsical formula that is seen and written home about when it comes to conversations about animated Non/Disney films. I like that. I very much prefer that type of Disney where nothing feels held back while still having just enough of that magical flair to join the other works of art that affiliate with the majority of the Walt Disney Feature Animation timeline. And Dinosaur delivers exact that. Not to mention its parallel to the story of Moses and the Israelites journey to the Promised Land.
It’s been 25 years since Dinosaur was released, and to this very day, I hold it amongst my highest of regards. Just shy of Atlantis: The Lost Empire & Treasure Planet as part of my Top 3 favorites, which all were composed by none other than James Newton Howard. A fun fact that still gets me fired up even now. With that being said, I took a music track from my ‘Dinosaur’ inspired playlist called, “Small Things, Big Changes, One Voice” and used what I personally consider to be the main theme of my personal playlist because I can genuinely see this track being another version of the Egg Travels with multiple suites here and there.
I wasn’t sure if I would be able to have this edit completed by its release day, but ever since I created the playlist with this song included, I was very keen on actually using it for a ‘Dinosaur’ edit, and here it is. To those that a kick out of dinosaurs, kaijus, many of mighty creatures—fictional or non-fictional—I hope y’all enjoy this video and if you do, please leave a like and subscribe and I’m more likely to do this regularly.
Also shoutout to Rover259Wild for making the videos where they’re all sound effects only. Without them, it would’ve been much more of a chore to edit my video.
