What if I'm unsatisfied? - Sermon on Exodus 17:1-7 by Christian Schwark / 02/02/25
Sermon by Christian Schwark on Exodus 17:1-7, delivered on February 2, 2025, at the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection in Siegen-Trupbach. Part 1 of the sermon series: “Life in the Desert.”
Sermon topic: “What if I am dissatisfied?”
Sermon Text:
“Israel in Massah and Meribah
1 The whole Israelite congregation set out from the Desert of Sin, continuing their daily journeys as the Lord commanded them, and they camped at Rephidim. There the people had no water to drink. 2 They quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water so we may drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why are you testing the Lord?” 3 When the people thirsted for water there, they grumbled against Moses and said, “Why did you bring us out of Egypt, only to let us, our children, and our livestock die of thirst?” 4 Moses cried out to the Lord and said, “What shall I do with these people? They are about to stone me.” 5 The Lord said to him, “Stand before the people and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.” 6 “See, I will stand before you on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will flow out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the presence of the elders of Israel. 7 He named the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites had quarreled there and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
