How to get Cold Resistance early with the Warm Doublet
Head into the hut, and you'll find a bed which you can rest in to recover your health, a variety of items for the taking - including Spicy Peppers, which are a key ingredient to make any meal you make come with Cold Resistance properties - and a diary.

Thankfully all three ingredients are very easy to find. Raw meat can be obtained by killing any of the larger animals, such as a wild boar. While they spook easily, creep up and shoot them with an arrow and they don't take much to go down.
Hyrule Bass is in plentiful supply in the lake located near the centre of the Great Plateau. Toss a bomb into the water and detonate in order to send a few tasty fish to an explosive end. Now they are floating on the surface you can jump down and grab whatever you want. Spicy peppers are equally easy to find, with plants growing in numerous locations around the area.
With three ingredients in hand return to the Old Man's hut. Go to your inventory and hold the raw meat, Hyrule Bass and the Spicy Pepper. Return to the game, stand next to the cooking pot and you'll have to option to cook what you're holding. This will give you Spicy Meat and Seafood Fry.
If you head south of the Temple of Time, there is an area of trees with a wooden hut, with the Old Man outside.
