In this video I look at a clip of Bernie Grundman who is arguably the most famous mastering engineer of all time, and how he demonstrates a lack of understanding of reconstructive filtering.
Despite how unintuitive it sounds, you only need TWO sample points to make a perfect sine wave, one positive and one negative. Given that these sample points occur at a regular interval you will have a triangle wave. But what happens when you low pass filter this triangle wave with the cutoff at the fundamental frequency? That's right, you get a sine wave. There is NO NEED to "draw" the sine wave perfectly in the digital recording and saying otherwise demonstrates cluelessness.
