Because outgoing Chancellor Scholz didn't have a chance against his challenger Merz. Scholz was on the defensive for 90 minutes, finding no way to counter Merz's clear and fact-based counterattacks. And NIUS editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt wasn't the only one wondering whether AfD leader Alice Weidel might have been a more suitable candidate for this TV duel.
