"Digging through some of my old cassette tapes, this is one I made up years ago filled with TV theme songs/music, TV commercials, radio commercials and even a Sesame Street Ernie and Bert skit. I remember that there was a radio station that was changing formats and in between ditching the old format and unveiling the new one, they played TV theme songs for 24 hours a day for a few weeks. In retrospect, I think the radio station would have done better just playing the TV theme songs- that's not a joke; the station tanked within a couple years, new format and all.
So that got me to hook up my cassette recorder to the television set and record lots of my favorite TV themes. This means that in some cases, I might have preferred one season's revamped theme over a previous season, or, in the case of "KOJAK," I guess I wanted just about ALL of the variations!
"I Dream Of Jeannie" will always be a very special one for me because I remember being about 6 and hearing the revamped closing theme music for the last season of the show. I was completely blown away by that one. That revamped closer is one of the best things I've ever heard and it still takes my breath away all these years later. The very last thing I had on this tape was the original theme for the show "Soul Train." I had to have been super young when they were using this- like 3 or 4, but I remembered it well. It sounded of the streets, very urban, almost a little sad and wistful and frankly, that blaring train horn at the end of the tune always freaked me out to no end- absolutely gave my spine a deathly chill. Wow."
