1) extract fallout 4 edit to wherever you want it to be, fallout 4 edit automatically detects your game installation.
2) run fallout 4 edit, this can be intimidating, don't loose hope, a popup menu should open up automatically with a list of your mods, make sure you have XDI.esm in that list. Press OK once you see that you have XDI.esm in that list.
3) A "TIPS" popup should appear, you can close it by pressing "Next" you need to close it
4) wait for it to load
5) on the left side of the main window you should see a list, locate XDI.esm
6) right-click and select "add masters"
7) a popup window should open, select "fallout4.esm" and select ok
8) you can close fo4 edit now and it will ask you to save changes, select ok
9) now check your mod loader for XDI.esm and it should say Masters: fallout4
10) you should be done!
