In this comprehensive tutorial, I walk you through the entire process of setting up dbt Cloud and connecting it to BigQuery as your data warehouse. As a full-time data scientist who uses dbt Cloud daily at a fintech company, I know how valuable this tool is for building and maintaining data models that feed into analytics dashboards and reports.

This is the first video in a complete dbt Cloud series where I'm documenting my journey learning BigQuery while teaching you dbt fundamentals. Even though I typically work with Amazon Redshift, I wanted to use BigQuery for this series to explore a new platform alongside you. We start from absolute scratch – setting up a free dbt Cloud developer account, creating a BigQuery project with sample data, configuring service accounts with proper credentials, and connecting everything to GitHub for version control.

By the end of this tutorial, you'll have a fully functional dbt Cloud environment connected to BigQuery, complete with sample datasets including Jaffle Shop and Stripe data. You'll see your first dbt models run successfully and understand how to create branches, commit changes, and use the dbt Cloud IDE. Whether you're a solo developer or working at a company building out your data infrastructure, this step-by-step guide will get you started with dbt Cloud and BigQuery integration in under 15 minutes.
