Mother's Day is a popular holiday, but is there a Buddhist equivalent? Did the Buddha ever speak of "Mothers"? Yes! In addition to his prior-lives actions in supporting his parents, he helped one of his closest disciples in a practice to help his mother who had rebirth as a hungry ghost. This became so popular among laypersons that there is even a festival for it. But you can also practice loving-kindness, compassion, and generosity for mothers right here and right now! These are foundational Buddhist values that are perfect for this day (and every day).
