Autodesk 3ds Max is a very nice full 3D package. We will be taking a general look at how to go about using it by covering some of the basics. We will take a look at how to move, rotate and pan the camera around. It is essential for working with any new 3D package that you first learn how to manipulate the Viewport windows. The Viewport windows are the area which you will be working with the model directly by manipulating components such as vertices, edges and polygons. There is quite a bit of information to cover when dealing with a full 3D package like Autodesk 3ds Max so we will be taking it one small step at a time.
Importing nif files requires that the correct settings are used. We will be taking some time to setup the Niftools importer so that when we begin working with Skyrim nif files we will have the correct settings. As mentioned in a previous video description the version of Niftools that is being used during these recordings is Niftools version 3.7.2. If after you import a nif file you do not see a skeleton as depicted in the video be sure to set the path to your Skeleton.nif file location in the Niftools import options. You can set the path to the skeleton.nif file inside of the Niftools import options pop up window at the bottom just above the import button.
Once we have successfully imported a Skyrim nif file we will setup the Niftools exporter. Be sure that when you are setting up the exporter for Niftools that your settings match those in the video so that you have no issues with exporting.
