Did you run into issues splitting your surface during the tutorial? Try this!
SP - Split
select surface
selclosedcrv - selects closed curves within the file, should work if they are flat to the z plane
enter
Then proceed to split sub-surfaces with the crvs as per the tutorial:
SP - Split
select surface
selcrv - selects curves
enter
